How to Season Your New Pizza Pan
-
1) Clean
Wash your new pan with warm water and mild dish soap to remove manufacturing residues/oils. Use a soft sponge to avoid scratching. Rinse thoroughly and dry completely with a clean towel.
-
2) Oil
Lightly coat the entire surface (inside and out for steel pans) with a high smoke point oil, such as avocado oil or a vegetable oil. Use a paper towel to spread a thin, even layer, ensuring no excess oil pools.
-
3) Bake
Preheat your oven to 400°F. Place the oiled pan upside down on the middle rack (place a baking sheet or foil on the lower rack to catch drips). Bake for 1 hour, then turn off the oven and let the pan cool inside.
Notes:
- For a stronger seasoning, repeat the oiling and baking process 1–2 more times. This builds a more durable non-stick layer.
- After each use, avoid soap; clean with hot water and a soft brush or cloth. Dry thoroughly (baking works too) to prevent rust, especially for steel. Reapply a thin layer of oil if the seasoning wears off.
- Aluminum pans season more slowly than steel.
- Steel pans require thorough drying and occasional re-seasoning to prevent rust.
Your pan is now ready for use!
